I'm part of a team of international experts in the areas of curriculum design, blended learning, pedagogy, and educational
technology that is designing a workshop for universities across Jordan in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education. We will lead the 5 day training program for Jordanian professors, e-learning professionals, and the directors of e-learning centers from the public and private universities in Jordan.
The training will familiarize teachers with the tools for designing and delivering blended learning courses at tertiary level, and will place special emphasis on when and how to use these tools to maximize learner productivity and engagement. This will require a close understanding of the learner context, and in addition the constraints posed by limited connectivity. The course will cover different approaches to instructional design, formative and summative online assessment, and establishing feedback mechanisms to help refine course content and delivery.
Our team met for three days in September and at the end of November we will leave for Jordan.

I am honored and awed to be a part of this project. Education changes lives, and to be a part of a project of this scope and that will affect so many lives is the opportunity of a lifetime.

Highlights
from the week |
Travel
After our time in Jordan, some of us will take an overnight trip to Petra. When we return to Amman I will hop on a short flight over to Egypt to visit my good friend in New Cairo and to see the Pyramids. I'd also like to see Alexandria while I'm in Egypt.
Next my friend and I will fly to Italy. It's been over 10 years since I've been back and I'm very much looking forward to revisiting old haunts and having new adventures.
Roma è la città più bella del mondo e la mia favorita. I have to start the trip with a visit to Rome. I spent my last semester at the University of Texas studying in Rome and have been back many times. After Rome I need to visit Florence for the first time. From Italy I will travel to Switzerland and visit Geneva and Chamonix. |
I had originally thought I would go to Austria after Italy, but I think I will save that for a future trip and make a quick stop in Germany instead. Since, it's like, on-the-way :)
The first time I was in Germany was when I was 7, before the wall came down. When I first started teaching I spent a summer traveling all over the country and have returned to visit a few times.
The next stop on my itinerary is Amsterdam before my destination of London where I will see one of my favorite people on the planet. Can't wait!

Mystery CityI will have time to make one more stop in Europe along my itinerary. I'm still undecided on what that mystery city should be. I'm looking for suggestions of where I should go and what I should see.
If I choose your suggestion I'll be in touch with a special mystery surprise. |
